The Improvement of Dental Aesthetic Index (DAD on orthodontic patient in Korea

Abstract
As attention to the health has been increased due to socioeconomic development, the demand of oral health care is also increase. In addition as the normal tooth alignment becomes essential in social life, the demand for orthodontic treatment is increasing.
The present research utilizes Dental Aesthetic Index(DAI) to measure the social aesthetic fittness of face with respect to orthodontic treatment. We surveyed 126 orthodontic treatment patients to determine the difference of pre- and postorthodontic treatment by DAI.
Collected sample models were analyzed through pre- and post- orthodontic treatment with 10 measures as follows ; (a) The number of missing incisior, canine, premolar teeth, (b) Crowding in the incisial segment, (c) Spacing in the incisial segment, (d) Diastema in mm, (e) Largest anterior irregularity--maxilla (upper) in mm, (f) Largest anterior irregularity -- mandible (lower) in mm, (g) Anterior maxillary overjet (upper) in mm, (h) Anterior mandibular overjet (lower) in mm, (i) Vertical anterior openbite in mm, (j) Anterior-posterior moalr relation. We obtained the results as follows : 1) The DAI difference under 15 years old and was -4.894, and DAI difference for 16-20 years old was -6.737, and more than 21 years old was -8.667, 2) There was no statistically significant difference by sex. (P > 0.01). 3) The mean of DAI on pre-treatment was 31 and that of DAI on post-treatment was 21. There was statically significant differecce between pre- and post- treatment (p<0.001). We suggest that future research measurement the average DAIs for each age group in Korea, which could be highly useful in 378. evaluating the fitness of orthodontic treatments in each group.
